(Dis)comfort
In Switzerland, live about 370,000 visually impaired and 50,000 blind individuals. A lack of knowledge about visual impairment can lead to stigmatisation, anxiety or discomfort in social interactions.
Psychology
The workshop for persons with and without visual impairment made it possible to learn about others’ sensory perceptions. It was also a safe space for sensitive topics to reduce uncomfortable situations.
Design
The 25 participants were guided to experience phosphenes and draw them. Visually impaired persons can also experience phosphenes, a visual phenomenon that inspired works by Miro, Dali and Kandisky.
Public outreach
The workshops took place in Dunkelrestaurant blindekuh Basel and Unternehmen Mitte.
